INTERVIEW

Can you tell us a little bit about the band, and how you came together?
Kara: Well me and Casi came together from our mother, so since birth, haha. We found the rest of the band through myspace. Steven has been our friend for awhile but the rest of them we found through myspace, we put up an ad and now we are Linden!

What made you decide to add four new members to your band?
Kara: We felt like we needed more of a full sound then just me and Casi, and I wanted to drop the guitar and just sing.

What made each member want to get into music and start a band?
Kara: I guess I started with piano lessons which eventually turned into guitar lessons when Casi got better than me and I got jealous so I switched to guitar and then singing on the praise and worship team at my church definitely got me started with singing too.
Steven: I really wanted to start doing music in elementary school when I started hearing the *NSYNC jams I always use to sing along to them. Then in 8th grade I started playing guitar and I’ve been doing that ever since.
Casi: I think music started being a passion in my life probably through praise and worship at church I’d say, just started playing there and I realized I really enjoyed it so me and Kara started doing it ourselves and now we’re Linden!

Who do you look up to musicically?
Kara: The rest of the band is going to hate me for saying this but I really look up to Paramore, it’s not that they don’t like them they just don’t like us being compared to them since they also have a lead female singer. I also look up to The Starting Line, I look up to Copeland a lot, The Rocket Summer, and the Format. That’s just to name a few.
Steven: I look up to Ace Enders, I look up to Chris Carrabba a lot, and anybody in the Decemberists, and Death Cab for Cutie.
Casi: I look up Eisley, The Rocket Summer, and Paramore too.

In Your opinion, what’s the most challenging part of being a new artist?
Steven: The hardest part of being a new band is making an establishment and having kids being able to get into your music, without having a pretty big following. Really it’s just trying to crack open into (I really don’t like to say it) the music scene.

How would you describe the Linden Sound?
Kara: For this question I am going to say a word and the other 2 are going to say a word and we are just going to go in a circle and answer it.
Kara: Linden
Steven: smells
Casi: like
Kara: fresh
Steven: piano lead
Casi: rock, pop
Kara: that
Steven: is
Casi: sweet

What is one of the most important things you have learned (in the music industry) about starting a band?
Kara: to take things slow, and make sure your doing it the right way
Casi: Don’t get into the wrong deal, and be knowledgable of what your doing and have people help you that know what they are doing.
Kara: and if it’s your dream, never give up, go with it with all of your heart!
Do you have any plans to tour outside of Minnesota and Wisconsin this year?
Kara: We do, it’s not exactly sure but we are most likely touring in May and into the summer!

Speaking of touring, what’s the one band or artist you would love to tour with?
All: The Rocket Summer

What are Linden’s goals for 2008?
Steven: our goals are to stay as genuine and together as a band and provide people with music that actually changes them in some sort of way, basically staying real.
All: and writing a lot of new jams.

Finally, for those that don’t know, where can you hear and purchase Linden’s music?
Kara: well you can hear quite a few of our songs on our myspace (myspace.com/linden) and then head over to itunes and purchase it or you can go to our myspace and there’s a link on there where you can purchase the cd and not just the songs, or go to smartpunk.com and purchase it there for only $3.00
